Working a part time job in highschool is an experience that we should all have. Working has many benefits. For example it teaches students how to communicate with others, manage time, learn responsibility and experience a new form of independence. Working is also another way to give you a break from school life.
During school everyone is in their own bubbles filled with stress, class workloads, tests and more. Being in a new environment allows you to obtain a new perspective and step into a different bubble, one not filled with the stress of being a student. Having a job also allows you to build your resume, build a network and develop connections with new people, something that can benefit you in the future. While there are many advantages to working, there are some cons to consider.
Having a job can sometimes be extremely time consuming, especially if you decide to work on weekdays. Work should not come before your school work. If you do choose to find a job, first understand your priorities and create your work schedule around your school activities and school obligations. Find a job that is flexible with hours of work, this way you can have time for school and sports, as well as for doing things you love such as being with friends. I recommend that every high schooler gets a job at some point because it is beneficial, fun, and an important experience.
