In a world plagued with climate change, gun violence, poverty, and corruption, the youth of the world turn to social media to distract themselves from the evils of society. Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram, and even the ever watching Facebook shed a positive light that allows users to express themselves freely online. Unfortunately, they all pale in comparison to TikTok.

So what is TikTok you may ask? TikTok is a social media platform that enables users, known as TikTokers, to make short videos showing off their “talent,” superb lip-syncing, and comedic expression. So what’s the big deal? TikTok grants ordinary people like SHP’s very own DJ Rodin Flash and Spencer Lee to amass thousands of followers and become TikTok famous. Becoming famous on TikTok is anything and everything one could want in life. Aside from gaining no money, social status, or real-life clout, being TikTok famous allows you to be recognized by many people who you will never actually meet. T

he instant gratification of getting 12 likes on a video you spent 45 minutes making is priceless. The anxiety-filled wait on whether your post will be featured on the #foryou page or not is precious. Finally, the anger of getting your post taken down for absolutely no reason is like none other. What more could life have to offer? Cherish these moments for they will be gone like it’s beloved predecessor Vine.
