Today’s Daily Drop is an excellent call for service to our entire community. These photos show the members of SHP during their trip to Puerto Rico last February— a reminder to all of us to pursue volunteering in light of Goal 3.
Thank you to Dr. Gautier for submitting these. Here’s what she had to say if you want more context:
“In February 2020, thanks to James Everitt, our “organizer extraordinaire,” a group of teachers and staff from across our Sacred Heart campus spent their Winter Break doing volunteer work in San Juan, Puerto Rico. We spent most of the week fixing several houses damaged by Hurricane Maria. In addition, we participated in a reforestation project by planting trees, and some of us also worked at a local food bank.
To take the time to help others, to interact daily with the people whose houses we were fixing, to share mass at Sacred Heart University and see a welcoming portray of Mater Admirabilis, to bond with some really great SH colleagues, and to also enjoy the vibrant and colorful city of San Juan made this experience quite amazing. (Hey, I even learned how to tile a floor… so, who ever said you can’t teach an “old French dog” some new tricks?! ;-D )
Your summer plans are canceled? Don’t be sad. Instead, I suggest getting out of your comfort zone and finding ways to volunteer and help others!
Remember: “Tout ce qui n’est pas donné, est perdu” = Everything that is not given, is lost. Nope, Madeleine Sophie Barat and Rose Philippine Duchesne didn’t utter these French words but… they could very well have, don’t you think?!
