Now that fall has arrived and the weather has cooled down, the holiday season is approaching us. Whether you are going somewhere cold or warm for the holidays, I am here to offer a few essential pieces of clothes that you will need to survive this season. If you are going to your family’s Thanksgiving dinner, your ‘neighbors’ holiday party, or a New Years Celebration and you don’t know what to wear, well, you’re in luck because I have curated my holiday season essentials list to make the next few months less stressful!
My first article of clothing that is a must in the fall/winter are sweaters! Essentially they are the equivalent to a nicer top or blouse but worn during the colder months of the year. Sweaters are more than just a top that keeps you warm. You can have a cashmere, wool, cotton, or knitted sweater, to name a few types of fabric. Then one with designs, solid color, print, stripes, v-neck, turtleneck, and a simple crew neck are examples of the different types of sweaters styles. Depending on the weather, what bottoms I am wearing (skirts, jeans, or pants), and color scheme I am aiming for affects what sweater I wear.
Ok, so now onto sweater must-haves. A black sweater. This is a holiday season essential because it is so versatile yet so simple; you can pair it with a scarf, a warm coat, or just by itself, depending on the occasion. My go-to stores for sweaters are Zara, Revolve, and Nordstrom since they tend to carry super basic sweaters! Sweaters can easily be dressed down or dressed up, which is why they are so essential for colder weather wardrobes.
Although boots can be worn all year round, they are definitely best to have during the colder season. Boots are not just a way to keep your feet warm, but they can act as an accessory to your outfit as well! I love having a simple yet durable boot for the holidays because they look good with pants, jeans, dresses, and skirts. Currently, Dr. Martins are super popular; however, if you are looking for boots without laces, then I suggest Dolce Vita or Bloomingdales! To spice up your outfit for a holiday party, having a fun pair of boots is the way to go. Finding a pair with studs or an animal print is a simple way to add so much to your outfit. Zara, Target, and Zadig and Voltaire are great places to look for some funky boots. If you are looking to make your outfit fancier, then getting a pair of boots with a heel will automatically take your outfit up a notch. Boots are by far a must-have for the holiday season.
Lastly, having a warm coat is key to staying comfortable in the winter months. Having a basic puffer jacket such as a North Face or Patagonia is the perfect extra layer for the colder mornings because they are super lightweight yet keep you warm. I also always have a nicer coat to wear to holiday parties or if you are going out for a nice dinner with your family. In the past few years, I have found chic coats at Zara, Shopbop, and SamNY.
In preparation for the holiday season, having a winter wardrobe that is versatile, simple, but also incorporates holiday patterns such as plaid and animal print and lots of red, you will be well prepared!
